The development team at NECS went to great lengths to implement the SMS in a way that the transition from version 2 to version 3 could happen seamlessly. To address this issue the SMS has been designed with 2 operating modes.

Simple Mode

This operating mode emulates the design of the version 2 password system.

Users are not required to enter a username when logging into the entrée system.

Group Accounts are not available when using simple mode.

Passwords must be unique when the SMS is in simple mode.

Passwords are not case sensitive in simple mode. For example: MyPassword is the same as MYPASSWORD.

To place the SMS in simple mode, remove the check from the Enable "Advanced" mode option, located in the lower left corner of the security manager utility.

Advanced Mode

This operating mode requires all users to provide a unique username in addition to their password to access the entrée system.

Users are required to enter both a username and a password to log into the entrée system. Windows will however remember the username of the last successful login, so typically only the password will have to be entered.

Users may optionally be assigned membership in one or more "Group" accounts. When a user is a member of one or more groups the group privileges are merged with their own to determine what areas of the system the user can access.

User names must be unique when the SMS is in advanced mode, but passwords do not have to be unique.

Passwords are case sensitive in advanced mode.

MyPassword is not same as MYPASSWORD.

If you attempt to place the SMS in simple mode, when one or more accounts contain a duplicate password, you will get an error.

To correct this issue, the password must be changed for the account with a duplicate password before switching to simple mode.

If you attempt to place the SMS in advanced mode, when one or more accounts are assigned the same username, you will get an error.

To correct this issue, each account must be assigned a unique username before switching to advanced mode. This typically happens when upgrading from version 2 and the converted accounts have yet to be assigned a username.
