Sometimes distributors may sell an item strictly on a per-pound basis. This way of selling has been extremely popular with seafood distributors dealing with fresh product. For example, a customer may call and order 20 pounds of cod fillet. Obviously, there is not any type of unit that can be tracked besides the pounds, unlike the catch weight or constant weights that also track cases or pieces. Only the on hand weight (not the on hand quantity) will be maintained for these types of items.
Set up a per-pound item as you would any other with the exception of the following:
•The Unit of Measure field must be set to LB. (be sure to include the period at the end)
•The Price by Weight field must be enabled.
•The Constant, Average, Minimum, and Maximum Weight must be set to 0.
•Item costs and selling prices should be defined as a per pound cost or price.
