This area is used to configure the default font settings for the given Font. (Standard, Narrow, or Compressed). This section will detail each of the fields in the font setup area.

Font Name

This field is used to specify the type face or character set that should be used when printing to the given printer.

When configuring a laser printer type, the same font name should be used for all 3 fonts.

Courier New is the recommended font name for all laser/ink jet printers, as it is a "fixed pitch" font.

When a font has a fixed pitch all characters require the same amount of space to print. The letter I is just as wide as the letter W. It is imperative that a fixed pitch font is used, to ensure that form documents (invoice, statements, loading sheets, etc.) are properly spaced.

When configuring a dot-matrix printer, select a font name that includes character

spacing, for example:

Courier 10 for the Standard font (10 characters per inch).

Courier 12 for the Narrow font (12 characters per inch).

Courier 17 for the Compressed font (17 characters per inch).

Font Size

This setting determines how big the printed font is on the paper. The value in this field does not apply to dot-matrix printer types.

The recommended font size settings for all laser/ink jet printers are as follows:

12 for the Standard font (10 characters per inch).

10 for the Narrow font (12 characters per inch).

7 for the Compressed font (17 characters per inch).

Line Spacing

This property determines the height of the printed line when using a dot-matrix printer.

This setting is not used when configuring a laser/ink jet printer.

The value (6 or 8) of this field represents how many printed lines are in one vertical inch.

The default and recommended setting for this field is 6.

Character Spacing

This field should be set to Fixed, when configuring a laser/ink jet printer.

These options are disabled when configuring a dot-matrix printer.
